On Friday morning I had the pleasure of attending the Origins York collaboration with luxury fitness brand Sweaty Betty.
The event was advertised as an energising yoga class followed by skin pampering mini treatments- sounds like bliss right? The girls who welcomed us said it was an incentive to get everyone feeling that #FridayFeeling and though the classic British weather managed to interfere with the yoga slightly, we still had a very refreshing breathing and meditation session to start off the afternoon and left with beautifully fresh skin, this was definitely achieved regardless of the rain.
Both brands were showing off great new products with Sweaty Betty having their brand new 'bum sculpting POWER leggings' being the forefront and centre piece in their York store. With their vibrant floral design they were described to us by the team as 'the perfect ingredient to brighten any dull work out or rainy day' just like the one which threatened to dampen our yoga session and they were right. In our gorgeous gift bag from the collaboration of the event, amongst other treats shown below; we received a voucher for Sweaty Betty so I may just have to invest in the beautiful floral set as we are definitely not short of rainy days here in Yorkshire.
It has to be said, the staff from both Origins and Sweaty Betty were a dream. On arrival we were given a green juice and offered some healthy snacks- guilt free and indulgent all at once- perfect! All the girls were so friendly and knew exactly what they were talking about. Me and my friend Mabel spent a while talking to all the lovely staff about both the gorgeous products and the brands on the whole, both having opened up on York's famous Stonegate within the past year, more recently with Origins opening just last month, it was lovely to hear more about what's new for them and how both are advocates for a happy, healthy lifestyle.
This is actually the main reason why I attended the event in the first place as recently my life has been a little bit all over the place. Though this is due to all good things going on, my busy lifestyle as of late has left me without any real structure or routine so that when I finally get a day off, a work out is the last thing on my mind. This goes for skincare also so an event like this was a good opportunity to be around motivated people and get some inspiration.
So with the intention of starting afresh, I thought I'd firstly invest a little in a new routine for my skin. As an actor, I don't like to wear too much make up on a daily basis, I think it's nice especially to not have to make much effort for rehearsals- being a blank canvas or whatever you want to call it means that the focus is on the work and your own individual style is left aside so it's easier to feel like your character. But though I've always prided myself on being confident enough to go bare faced- pretty much anywhere, sometimes I find myself catching a glimpse of my reflection and wishing I'd maybe put on a little touch of something in the morning. This is most likely a side effect from working on a make up counter last year, probably doing more damage to my skin than I realised at the time. But basically I decided I'd like to try a little harder for myself as clear and healthy skin does a great deal for anyone's confidence.
So after my facial, I spoke to one of the girls about a set or something that included a few of the products to start me off and she recommended "The Glow Kit', a selection of the personal favourites of wellness blogger; Madeleine Shaw as this included some of my own favourites I'd tried. Having two items from the fantastic GinZing range, both the exfoliating cleanser and the eye cream as well as the new 'A Perfect World' Moisturiser with an impressive SPF 40, the 'Drink Up' Intensive overnight mask and finally the Super Spot remover blemish treatment gel, the set seemed like a good bet. I love it when brands do sets like this too as it gives you lots of products to try without having the buy outright the full sizes, so you get to see what works for your skin before investing further. And for two full size products as well as three deluxe samples, £38 when the value was more than double (£80), made me feel like I was getting a good deal too. As the stand says also, sets like this make great gifts.
Having tried some of the products before, my favourite being the rose clay mask- just beautiful, I have faith that origins may be just the thing I'm looking for to get me back on track so I'll keep an update of what works for me and maybe do some posts on recommendations as I go along.
And as future events were promised for both stores, I'll definitely keep an eye out of those. But I'd also like to include a further, wider focus on health and wellbeing in my future blogs and try and combat my current busy lifestyle with a bit of routine here and there wherever possible. No excuses anymore!
So, I'm now feeling motivated and I'm ready to get started.
